Experience & Expertise
Pius is an automatic driving instructor in Nottingham with PDI status, three years of teaching experience and around 60 learners taught. With more than 25 years of driving experience, he helps beginners and nervous learners make sense of busier traffic, complex junctions and multi-lane roundabouts.
His previous career in engineering influences how he explains driving. Pius breaks an unfamiliar road layout into a sequence of decisions, helping you understand what to look for first and how that affects your speed and position. This is particularly useful if several signs, lanes and moving vehicles leave you unsure where to focus.
Teaching Approach
Pius works through observation, speed, positioning and decision-making in manageable stages. He combines verbal explanations, demonstrations and coaching questions, choosing the method that makes the situation clearest for you.
When one learner found multi-lane roundabouts overwhelming, Pius drew a diagram before driving to explain lane choices and signalling. They then worked through the roundabout as a series of decision points, helping the learner negotiate complex junctions more independently.
For a nervous beginner, he keeps each lesson focused on a manageable goal. As you improve, he reduces prompts and encourages you to follow signs and road markings for yourself. His lessons are available in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, including support for learners seeking a Cantonese-speaking driving instructor in Nottingham.
Local Knowledge
Pius teaches around Colwick and Chilwell, with preparation for both Nottingham test centres. Larger roundabouts such as Bardills Roundabout and Bramcote Island provide context for his emphasis on reading signs, selecting lanes and planning before reaching a junction.
His local practice also covers Colwick Loop Road, Daleside Road / Daleside Road East and the A6005 / High Road. Across residential streets and busier urban roads, he helps you connect what the signs and markings tell you with the decisions you need to make. Those habits are intended to work on unfamiliar roads as well as during test preparation.
Training Car
Pius uses an automatic hybrid Toyota Yaris with dual controls, a reversing camera and parking sensors. With no manual gear changes to manage, lessons can focus on observation, road position and the decisions ahead.
When practising parking, camera and sensor information supports your own observations; it does not replace checking the surroundings.

Pius enjoys technology and travelling. His interest in understanding how things work carries into lessons, where he encourages learners to understand the reasons behind a decision and stay curious about unfamiliar road layouts.
Why Choose Pius?
Pius suits learners who want a logical explanation of roundabouts and junctions. If you understand individual driving skills but find it difficult to put them together in busy traffic, his engineering background and use of diagrams can help make the sequence easier to follow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I memorise a roundabout diagram before driving it?
Use a diagram to understand how a layout fits together, rather than treating it as an instruction for every visit. Signs, markings and traffic conditions still need your attention on the road. If you can explain the reason for a lane choice, the diagram has helped you understand more than just a route.
What if a roundabout looks different from the one I practised?
Tell Pius which part feels unfamiliar: the number of lanes, the signs, the exits or the volume of traffic. Separating those concerns makes it easier to identify what you need to understand. Recognising a familiar principle in a new layout is a useful part of learning, even when the roundabout itself is new.
Can I bring a picture of a junction that confused me?
Ask Pius whether a map or image would be useful for discussion. Explain which direction you approached from and where you intended to go, because the same junction can present very different decisions from different approaches. Any image should be obtained safely, and older imagery may not reflect the current layout.
Why can I explain a lane choice afterwards but struggle to make it while driving?
Explaining a situation afterwards gives you more time and fewer competing tasks. While driving, you are also managing the car and monitoring traffic. That difference can reveal a need to practise bringing skills together, rather than a lack of understanding. Tell Pius when the decision starts to feel rushed.
How can I tell whether I understand a junction or just remember it?
Ask yourself whether you can explain which signs or markings informed your decision and what might make you choose differently. Remembering where you went last time is useful familiarity, but it does not explain why that choice was appropriate. Discuss that distinction with Pius when reviewing a junction.
