Experience & Expertise

Candy is an automatic driving instructor in Manchester with two years of instructor experience, more than 20 years of driving experience and over 20 learners taught.

She particularly enjoys helping complete beginners and nervous learners who need additional confidence before dealing with busier traffic.

Before becoming a Manchester driving instructor, Candy worked in a busy retail environment. Regularly communicating with different people and staying calm when situations became busy developed skills she now uses when pupils become nervous or frustrated.

Her extensive driving experience also helps her recognise that safe driving is not simply about controlling the vehicle. Learners need enough spare attention to notice pedestrians, buses, parked vehicles, junctions and changing traffic.

Candy therefore increases difficulty gradually rather than placing a nervous learner into demanding traffic before their basic observation and car-control skills are ready.

Teaching Approach

Candy breaks new driving skills into clear stages and explains what the learner needs to notice before taking action.

She uses verbal explanations, demonstrations and coaching questions to help learners understand what happened and what they could do differently.

For example, a pupil struggling at busy junctions may first work on observation and planning somewhere quieter. Once those skills become more consistent, Candy gradually introduces heavier traffic and more complicated junctions.

As confidence improves, she reduces the amount of guidance she gives and encourages the learner to plan ahead and make their own decisions.

This transition is important before the practical test because the learner needs to drive safely when Candy is no longer providing constant instructions.

Her gradual approach makes Candy a suitable driving instructor in Manchester for learners whose confidence needs to develop alongside their practical ability.
