Lydia is an automatic driving instructor in Leeds with one year of instructor experience. She specialises in supporting nervous or anxious learners, people returning after a previous test attempt and refresher learners.

For learners who have previously failed a test, Lydia focuses on identifying patterns behind their faults rather than treating every driving fault as a separate problem.

Teaching Approach

Lydia sometimes demonstrates the same situation twice: once while explaining her observations aloud and once with minimal commentary, then asks the learner what they noticed. She uses the learner’s previous attempt as the starting point and identifies the exact moment where the situation became difficult rather than explaining the entire topic again.

​

She asks learners to talk through their own thinking during selected parts of a drive to identify whether a mistake came from what they saw, what they understood or the decision they made. Lydia also varies repetition: some learners practise the same situation several times, while others see the same principle applied on different roads.

​

For example, a learner who checked mirrors regularly but did not always understand when the information was important. Lydia connected each mirror check to the decision that followed, such as changing speed, direction or road position.

Local Knowledge

Lydia teaches in Leeds, Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Moortown, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Meanwood, Pudsey, Farsley, Morley and surrounding areas. Her lessons use roads around Wakefield, Rothwell, Morley and Castleford, including older residential streets, town-centre traffic, faster connecting roads, filter lanes and traffic-light-controlled junctions.

She prepares learners for Wakefield and Leeds test centres. South Leeds and Wakefield provide practice with filter lanes, staggered junctions, merging traffic and situations where lanes develop or disappear.

Training Car

Lydia teaches in an automatic Nissan Juke with dual controls, a reverse camera and parking sensors. The car is a hybrid.

Lydia enjoys DIY, cars and technology. She says DIY has given her a practical problem-solving approach: when something is not working, she prefers identifying the exact part causing the problem and changing it rather than repeating the whole exercise.
