Claire is an automatic driving instructor covering Leeds and Wakefield with one year of instructor experience. She works with complete beginners, learners returning after a break and overseas drivers adapting to UK roads.

Claire uses unfamiliar roads once a learner is ready so she can check whether they genuinely understand a skill rather than simply remembering a familiar test route.

Teaching Approach

For lane-positioning problems, Claire teaches learners to use road markings, signs and the direction of the road ahead rather than relying on one fixed reference point. She also works on gathering information earlier so that the learner has fewer last-second decisions to make.

​

She uses comparison demonstrations, for example showing the difference between an approach where planning starts early and one where speed reduction and observation are left late. Her coaching questions focus on one element at a time, such as the main risk, who could be affected or what information is missing.

For example, a learner who found multi-lane junctions confusing and chose lanes too late. Claire taught them to identify signs, markings and directional information earlier and plan their position before reaching the junction.

Local Knowledge

Claire teaches across Leeds, Wakefield, Castleford, Morley, Rothwell, Garforth and Kippax. Her lessons include urban routes through Leeds and Wakefield, roads connecting Morley, Rothwell and Castleford, and sections of the A61, A650 and A642.

​

She mainly prepares learners for Wakefield and Leeds driving test centres. Local practice focuses on situations where lane choice needs to be made well before the junction, including larger junctions and approaches from the A61 and A650.

​

Training Car

Claire teaches in an automatic Toyota Yaris with dual controls, a reverse camera and parking sensors. The car is a hybrid.

Claire enjoys reading, documentaries and travelling. She says her interest in understanding how and why things work influences her teaching, as she prefers learners to understand the reason behind a driving technique rather than following an instruction simply because they have been told to.
