Driving & Teaching Experience
Bryan is an automatic driving instructor in Leeds with four years of instructor experience. He has taught more than 140 learners and mainly works with complete beginners, young first-time learners and pupils who need help developing strong driving routines from the start.
Bryan focuses on finding the reason behind a learner’s difficulty rather than repeatedly practising the same mistake. He looks at whether the issue comes from observation, planning, car control or decision-making, then adapts the lesson around that underlying problem.
Teaching Approach
Bryan breaks difficult situations into three stages: what to look for, what decision needs to be made and what action to take. He explains the reason behind each action rather than asking learners to memorise routines. Depending on the learner, he uses diagrams, verbal explanations, demonstrations and coaching questions.
His support is gradually reduced from direct instruction to prompting, coaching questions and then independent driving. Once a skill is established, Bryan introduces unfamiliar roads to check that the learner can apply it without relying on a memorised route.
For example, a learner who understood roundabout rules but struggled on busy roundabouts. Bryan separated the problem into approach speed, observation, gap assessment and decision-making, then gradually removed his prompts and later used unfamiliar roundabouts to test independent judgement.
Background
Before becoming a driving instructor, Bryan worked in the clothing wholesale industry, where he led a team, coordinated day-to-day operations and worked in a fast-paced environment. His background gave him practical experience in team leadership, organisation, customer communication and problem-solving. He chose driving instruction because it allowed him to use those skills in a more personal, one-to-one setting.
Local Knowledge
Bryan teaches across Leeds, including Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Moortown, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Meanwood, Pudsey, Farsley and Morley. Learners practise on residential streets, busy urban routes, large multi-lane roundabouts, dual carriageways and higher-speed roads including sections of the A6120 Leeds Outer Ring Road.
He regularly prepares learners for Leeds (Fearnville) and Horsforth Driving Test Centres. His lessons also cover challenging local situations such as the Armley Gyratory, busy sections of the A6120, complex junctions around Harehills and narrower residential roads around Headingley and Chapel Allerton.
Training Car
Bryan teaches in an automatic Volvo V40 with dual controls, a reverse camera and parking sensors. The car is petrol-powered.

Outside Driving Lessons
Bryan enjoys hiking, travelling and photography. He says photography has trained him to notice small details and changes in the environment, which influences the way he teaches learners to look beyond the most obvious hazard and notice early clues.
Why Choose Bryan?
Bryan combines long-term driving experience with a structured, analytical teaching style. His approach is particularly suitable for beginners who want to understand why they are making each decision and gradually become independent rather than relying on instructor prompts.
