Phoenix is an automatic driving instructor in Widnes and St Helens with two years of instructor experience and more than 20 years of driving experience. He has taught more than 40 learners and previously worked professionally as a bus driver.

He has particular experience helping pupils approaching test standard who need to become more independent. His bus-driving background developed strong observation, forward planning, spatial awareness and experience anticipating pedestrians, cyclists and changing urban traffic.

Teaching Approach

Phoenix encourages learners to identify what could develop five to ten seconds ahead instead of focusing only on what has just happened. As a learner becomes more experienced, he deliberately reduces questions and instructions so the pupil practises making decisions independently.

​

For example, if a learner reacts only to the brake lights directly ahead, Phoenix may ask them to scan further along the road for a pedestrian crossing, queue or narrowing road. Over time, he removes the question and checks whether they begin planning for those hazards themselves.

​

His support progresses from guided practice to occasional prompts, longer independent sections and mock-test-style driving with minimal input.

Local Knowledge

Phoenix teaches across Lingley Green, Sankey Bridges, Cuerdley, Bold Heath, Widnes, Appleton, Stockton Heath, Warrington town centre and surrounding areas. Learners experience residential streets, bus routes, pedestrian-heavy roads, complex junctions, roundabouts and dual carriageways.

He regularly prepares pupils for Speke, Widnes and St Helens Driving Test Centres. Around Widnes, Liverpool Road, Derby Road, Ashley Way and the Eastern Bypass help learners practise observation and lane planning. Around St Helens, the A570, Linkway East and West and Sherdley Road provide experience of changing traffic flows and road layouts.
