Experience & Expertise

Ping is a PDI and automatic driving instructor in Leigh and Atherton with two years of instructor experience and more than 20 years of driving experience. He has taught more than 40 learners and previously worked professionally as a lorry driver.

He has particular experience supporting refresher drivers, overseas licence holders and experienced drivers who have not driven regularly in the UK. His background gives her first-hand knowledge of larger vehicles, longer stopping distances, blind spots, road position and hazard anticipation.

Teaching Approach

Ping first assesses what an experienced driver can already do instead of automatically starting from beginner level. Lesson time then focuses on specific weaknesses, unfamiliar UK conventions or confidence in situations the pupil has avoided.

​

He relates new techniques to situations the pupil already understands and uses discussion, coaching questions and demonstrations. He encourages learners to plan their own routes, read signs and explain the hazards they anticipate.

​

For example, a refresher driver who has avoided dual carriageways may begin on familiar roads, then practise joining and leaving on a less demanding dual carriageway before moving to busier, higher-speed routes.

Local Knowledge

Ping teaches across Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Westhoughton, Hindley, Golborne, Lowton and Astley. Learners practise on urban and rural roads, dual carriageways, higher-speed routes, large roundabouts and roads regularly used by HGVs.

He prepares learners for Warrington, St Helens and Atherton Driving Test Centres. Practice may include the A49, A57 Manchester Road, Wilderspool Causeway, A58 Linkway and A570. Ping also teaches pupils to recognise HGV blind spots and avoid remaining unnecessarily alongside large vehicles at busy junctions and roundabouts.
