Raymond is an automatic driving instructor in Leeds with three years of instructor experience. For complex junctions and roundabouts, Raymond simplifies the situation first and adds extra elements only when the learner is ready. He uses coaching questions such as “What information are you looking for here?” and may ask the learner to talk through a situation before attempting it.

He adapts the amount and timing of instruction according to how quickly each learner processes information. If a learner repeatedly makes the same mistake, he changes the teaching method or environment rather than simply repeating the same exercise.

For example, a learner who was confident on normal roads but struggled to judge safe gaps at busy roundabouts. Raymond separated the problem into approach speed, observation and gap judgement, then gradually reduced his prompts until the learner could make safe decisions independently.

Before becoming a driving instructor, Raymond worked in the clothing wholesale industry, where he led a team and coordinated day-to-day operations. His background also includes procedural compliance, risk awareness, observation and professional conduct. These experiences influence his structured teaching style and emphasis on recognising the information that should trigger a particular driving decision.

Local Knowledge

Raymond teaches across Leeds, including Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Moortown, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Meanwood, Pudsey, Farsley and Morley. His lessons include city roads, residential streets, 20/30 mph zones, dual carriageways and sections of the Leeds Outer Ring Road.

He mainly prepares learners for Leeds (Fearnville) and Horsforth Driving Test Centres. Local lesson work includes multi-lane junctions, large roundabouts, bus lanes, changing speed limits and residential roads narrowed by parked vehicles.

Raymond teaches in an automatic Toyota Yaris with dual controls, a reverse camera and parking sensors. The car is a hybrid.

Outside Driving Lessons

Raymond enjoys football, going to the gym and cooking. He says football has influenced the way he thinks about improvement: one weak area does not mean the whole performance is poor, so he prefers identifying one or two specific skills to work on and building from there.
