Clement is an automatic driving instructor in Leeds with three years of instructor experience. He has taught more than 50 learners and works with first-time drivers, pupils with little or no experience on UK roads, learners who need extra time to build confidence with basic controls, learners who benefit from practising one skill at a time and pupils who want to develop strong observation habits from the beginning.

Clement focuses on helping learners understand the reason behind routines such as mirror checks, positioning and speed adjustment rather than treating them as steps to memorise for the practical test.

Teaching Approach

Clement uses pause points during explanations, stopping to ask what the learner thinks should happen next rather than explaining an entire situation at once. For visual learners, he may draw the movement of both the learner’s car and other traffic so that conflicts and priorities are easier to understand.

He changes his approach according to how the learner responds. Some learners benefit from questions while others need a demonstration first. If verbal instructions affect concentration, he reduces commentary and moves more discussion to before or after the exercise.

For example, a learner who struggled to judge when to give way on narrow residential roads with parked cars. Clement helped them identify available gaps, oncoming traffic and suitable meeting points earlier, improving both planning and confidence.

Local Knowledge

Clement teaches across Leeds, including Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Moortown, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Meanwood, Pudsey, Farsley and Morley. Learners practise on 20 mph residential zones, bus-lane corridors, multi-lane approaches, the Leeds Outer Ring Road and roads shared with cyclists and buses.

He regularly prepares learners for Leeds (Fearnville) and Horsforth Driving Test Centres. Areas around Headingley and Harehills are particularly useful for teaching bus-lane restrictions, positioning and awareness of pedestrians and cyclists.

Clement teaches in an automatic Toyota Yaris with dual controls, a reverse camera and parking sensors. The car is a hybrid.

Clement enjoys cooking, gardening and walking. He says cooking has made him appreciate timing and preparation, which he connects to driving by teaching that good decisions usually come from preparing early rather than trying to correct everything at the last moment.
